Senderos

Performed by New Thread Quartet at Williams College, MA, in April 2024, and The Cell, NY, in May 2024.

Senderos is a video score where the performers are presented with four different digital landscapes, each of them representing a musical movement in the piece. A separate score outlines the musical parameters associated with particular features of each landscape. As the video progresses, the performers interpret the landscape features through their playing and articulate musical parameters such as rhythm, pitch, character, and extended techniques, in a collective improvisation.

The video score was created using BlenderGIS to import satellite imagery and turn it into 3D models. These were imported into Unity, where an automated camera is used to move through the different landscapes creating the structure for the piece.
