Marbells VR

Musical Causality System

Marbells is a virtual interface for musical expression for generating audiovisual musical causality system. In this virtual environment the performer can create polyphonic and polyrhythmic structures by placing resonant blocks in the pathway of falling marbles. The resonant blocks produce sound when a marble comes in contact with them. The performer can spawn blocks from a selection of four different types, each with a characteristic timbre. The blocks are located at the center of the virtual space and are re-spawned as the user takes them from their corresponding pedestal. Once the performer grabs them, the blocks are not affected by gravity and suspend in mid air when released. The performer also has control of tempo and pitch of the system, by changing the rate at which marbles spawn and the tuning of each block with controller gestures.
